And yes, it’s the usual mix of quick sketches with waterbrush through to oil on canvas…

Actually, the charcoal (A2 paper), especially for ancient anthropologist was very interesting, not least because of the speed with which it’s possible to get something meaningful. I work fast with oil, but this is crazy-quick!

Paintings 2022

Once again, I’ve painted a lot of portraits on canvas paper (using oils), and these have been life size (or above), and alla prima (rather than patiently glazed). Of course, there are a couple of landscapes, too. Looking at just how many portraits I actually do, I’ve just renamed the site banner to say Landscape and Portrait Artist.

These are from 2022, too

Sometimes–okay, pretty much every day–I like to work even quicker, and just sketch in pen on paper, and add (water)colour with a water brush.

Somewhere along the way, I sort of internalised Peter Keegan’s “Don’t attempt to paint people you know” as permission to paint people I don’t know

Paintings 2020

Included here are some of first (serious) attempts at portraits …although in watercolour!

Work from this year was before I’d found the joys of working with oils. And also before I’d expanded onto a larger palette for colour mixing.

Landscapes (acrylic on canvas)

Mixed Media (paper collage, with PVA and matte medium)

And some pen drawings on paper
