This was ostensibly a collection of his early work at the Ashmolean in Oxford.
However, it was the big, literally heavy metal ‘paintings’ which really grabbed me, and I’ve been thinking about metal ever since…
Obviously, the earlier work was also very powerful (and memorable), too, and I definitely got the impression that Anselm stood back at intervals. And I also got the words “Says who?” form in my mind at the defiance of things like writing words across canvas. Great stuff, and very provocative!
