This was an expedition to the exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, showing the gunpowder art of Cai Guo-Qiang.
As well as the freedom and surprise of the pictures created, the artist’s actual vision–presented along with some big installations–on a tv screen was deeply moving, not least how he said his art allowed him access to a world beyond our own. Also, how the infinite could represented in even a small space, and showed how father’s drawings of traditional landscapes were drawn on tiny matchboxes.
big, by the way, was Beijing Olympics opening big …and bigger!
